Each unit emphasizes the Think Earth message—conserve natural resources, reduce waste, minimize pollution—while focusing on a specific theme and addressing content standards.

Preschool focuses on important environmental behaviors, teaching students to turn off electrical appliances and water when they are not being used, to recycle newspapers, cans, and bottles, and to dispose of trash properly.

Kindergarten focuses on conserving trees and other resources, teaching students that trees provide us with many benefits and emphasizing the importance of using paper, water, electricity and other resources wisely.

Grade 1 focuses on conserving natural resources, helping students learn that everything comes from the environment and that recycling materials and using water, paper, electricity and natural gas wisely can conserve resources.

Grade 2 focuses on the 3R’s, teaching students to reduce solid waste, reuse products, and recycle materials, all of which will conserve natural resources and reduce pollution.

Grade 3 focuses on creating less pollution, teaching students that waste from the production, distribution, consumption, and disposal of products can pollute our land, water, and air.

Grade 4 focus on reducing solid and liquid waste, teaching students where our trash and wastewater come from, where they go, and how to reduce the amount of solid waste, hazardous waste, and wastewater we produce.

Grade 5 focuses on pollution solutions—the causes and effects of smog, global warming, ozone depletion, acid rain, groundwater and soil pollution, and surface water and ocean pollution.

Grade 6 focuses on sustaining natural resources, teaching students what the benefits are of the natural environment and how overuse of our natural resources can cause problems, such as loss of habitat, loss of biodiversity, pollution, and food and water shortages.

Middle School (Air Care) focuses on air quality. Through science activities and “The Last Gasp Gazette” newspaper, students learn about the causes and effects of air pollution and learn what we all can do to help take care of the air. Go to Air Care Project for more information.
